Or are you already creating your schedule for the 25/26 forest school year? Whether you are just beginning this process or you are set and ready to enroll…now is the time, join us for a morning in the forest and see what Take Root Forest School is all about!

Get ready to get outside and have some fun in the forest!  

Educating the Whole Child…Head, Heart & Hands in the Forest and by the Sea

Schedule:

  • 9-9:30 – Arrival & Check-in, free-play for kids
  • 9:30 – Community Circle
  • 9:40 – Tour of site
  • 10:30-12:30 – Observation & Participation
  • 12:30 – Lunch if choosing to stay

Preparation:  

  • wear closed-toe shoes, like sneakers (no crocs or flip flops) 
  • be dressed for the weather with shoes and clothes that can get dirty and possibly muddy
  • always be prepared for the possibility of mosquitoes and or rain 
  • have an easy to carry lunch and snacks with no or little waste – pack out ALL waste – LEAVE NO TRACE
  • have a small, fold-able mat or blanket to sit on – one for child and one for you
  • have enough water for the duration of the time you will be visiting – no waste – thank you

Before attending:

Fill out this Application Form for each child you are interested in enrolling (please disregard if already done). This form will automatically make a student profile for your child on Brightwheel – our management platform. From there we will invoice you via Brightwheel for your $35 application fee – this fee includes the tour/experience day and needs to be paid before attending. Please review and sign and submit ALL forms in your child’s student profile BEFORE attending – this needs to be done on your browser or PC, not on the phone app. Forms include waivers and supply list.

BROWARD DRIVING DIRECTIONS: 

The Broward meeting spot is at the Bonnet House in Fort Lauderdale – main gate and parking area. Bonnet House website link. The Bonnet House is located between the Atlantic Ocean and Intracoastal Waterway in east Ft. Lauderdale at the corner of A1A and Sunrise Boulevard.

Directions Driving East (From I-95)

Take the Sunrise Boulevard exit and drive east 4 Miles (you will pass the Galleria Mall and go over the Intracoastal Waterway bridge) to North Birch Road — At the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and North Birch Road (there is a traffic light), turn right onto North Birch Road. Follow the road to the end and make a left into the parking lot.

When you arrive at the Bonnet House, if the gate is not open (they don’t officially open until 11am but we will be there to let you in between 8:55 & 9:15am), line up in your cars along Birch road to wait until the gate is opened for you (the gate needs to be manually opened by our team). If you arrive after 9:15 you will have to use the call box and ask a Bonnet House staff person to let you in (please be kind), or call or text Emily at 561-886-8865 – be aware she is with other families. Once you come through the parking lot gate, please DRIVE SLOWLY and CAREFULLY. 5 MPH – strictly enforced. 

The person at the gate can also help direct you where to go.

PARKING & MEETING INSTRUCTIONS

Park at the southeast corner of the parking lot in a designated parking spot. Walk to the Welcome Center – follow the gravel path to the right. At the Welcome Center there are bathrooms for you to use (you do not need to go to the office to check in). Cross the bridge over the estuary to the picnic tables where you will be greeted by our team.
