Experiential Discovery & Learning for Homeschoolers
GET CONNECTED! ECO – Every Child Outside…explore, discover, and learn the wonders of South Florida nature – experience the rhythm of the seasons and its effect on the biology and ecology of Florida flora and fauna. Discover the interconnectedness of the ecosystems and find a sense of place. ECO – Every Child Outside! Get disconnected (from screens) and get connected (to nature). This weekly immersive class will give students an opportunity to discover the ecology of South Florida – its biomes, ecosystems, habitats and niche’s. The learners will see first hand and in action: adaptations, energy exchange, photosynthesis, metamorphosis.
Through outdoor exploration and learning, participants will gain an understanding of biodiversity, trophic levels, predation, cycles (water, life, carbon, nitrogen). The class will expand on the idea of dependency and how everything affects everything else. Understanding the workings of the world will lead to appreciation and respect for self, others and the world we live in.
Each class is experiential – meaning all the senses of the learner are engaged. Experiential Learning is the process of learning by doing. By engaging students in hands-on experiences and reflection, they are better able to connect theories and knowledge learned to real-world situations.
Outdoor learning delivers many benefits — reduced stress, improved moods, boosts in concentration, and increases engagement in activities and lessons.
