Travel to the forest by the sea…seek out history and adventure as you meander through the diverse and rich habitats hidden from view – from mangrove estuary to maritime hammock to freshwater pond to the sandy shore.  Discover Natural Florida as you explore the corners of this rich and precious oasis – tucked away amid the hustle and bustle of Fort Lauderdale Beach.  This seasonal class will focus on habitats and the connectedness of life within South Florida’s varied ecosystems.  

We have been lucky enough to call Bonnet House our Nature Home for  seven years now…We LOVE it so!

The Bonnet House is a historic home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States. It is located at 900 Birch Road.

Bonnet House is located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway with two entrances.

Vehicular entrance with free visitor parking lot is located just south of Sunrise Boulevard at 900 North Birch Road, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33304.

Pedestrian only entrance with metered street parking is located at 750 Breakers Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33304.

Directions Driving From the West to the East (From I-95)

Take the Sunrise Boulevard exit and drive east 4 Miles (you will pass the Galleria Mall and go over the Intracoastal Waterway bridge) to North Birch Road — At the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and North Birch Road (there is a traffic light), turn right onto North Birch Road. Follow the road to the end and make a left into the parking area.

Where to meet the Nature Seekers:

Enter the parking area and stay straight to the end (south), curve/turn left and park – at the southwest side of the main parking area. Drop-off will be on the grassy field adjacent to the large mangrove forest. Teachers will be there to meet you at 10am.  

From the parking area  walk to the Nature Seekers Area – Island Theater & nearby forest.

Birch State Park

Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is a Florida State Park located in Fort Lauderdale, on East Sunrise Boulevard, between the Intracoastal Waterway and SR A1A.

Directions Driving From the West to the East (From I-95)

Directly across Sunrise from Bonnet House (north side). 

Take the Sunrise Boulevard exit and drive east 4 Miles (you will pass the Galleria Mall and go over the Intracoastal Waterway bridge) to North Birch Road — At the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and North Birch Road (there is a traffic light), turn left  onto North Birch Road. Follow the road to the entrance gate.  When having Nature Seekers at Birch, you will be given specific meeting directions in advance.
